Topic : Igniting the light of cities by skyscrapers
The baton marked with “the concept of tallest building in the world” exchanged nearly every week or so. In early 80’s, the Shanghai Hilton Hotel (148m) was the tallest building in Shanghai and by year 2010, the completed tallest building in China was Guangzhou TV tower (610m). Besides the height, the forms of tall buildings are developed in such a way that they are very distant and very strong in its own identity. This paper will address the important elements of tall buildings. Because of this, various structural systems were developed to fulfill the safety, functional and aesthetic requirement. Tall buildings are sensitive to wind and earthquakes. Therefore, the selection of lateral resistance systems is the key to the successful design of tall buildings. The sustainability issue for tall buildings will also be covered.

Topic : "Under Pressure” Managing wind pressures on tall building facades
MFT, in collaboration with CPP (International Wind Engineering Consultants), presents two case studies on wind pressure management within tall building façade design. The first case study will consider the various wind factors and considerations that can affect the form of a building and assess how a building façade can be influenced by such pressures. The second case study will address the commonly asked question “What façade savings can be achieved through wind tunnel testing”.
